Celebration & Parades
If May 1 is a public holiday in Togo, it is precisely in honor of work and workers. The event is to commemorate the anniversary of the May 1, 1886 date when American unions called over 400,000 workers to demonstrate for the eight-hour day. The date of May 1 was chosen because the majority of American companies start this day as their accounting year. Since then, May 1 has become the international day of workers ‘demands, giving rise to workers’ parades.
Within ADTEET, working hours of 8 hours are also the rule.
